Any young Electrical Engineering graduates specialized in electrical power has the dream of joining country’s state-owned Electricity Utility Ceylon Electricity Board – The CEB.
We were no exception and upon graduation in late seventies and early eighties, we joined the CEB as Electrical Engineers, starting a long career which lasted more than three decades in the organization.
It was barely 10 years since CEB was established as the successor to Department of Government Electrical Undertakings when we joined the CEB and the total peak demand then was mere 400 MW with electricity supply penetration of less than 15% of the population of Sri Lanka; yet the country had very ambitious plans for expansion of electricity system with the massive Mahaweli River Multi-purpose Development Scheme in 1980’s adding nearly 600 MW of hydropower to the CEB system.
We grew up with the system, starting as young engineers involved in design, erection and commissioning of the new additions, operating and maintaining them and later managing the stations as engineers-in-charge. Starting with Hydro Power Plants and 66kV transmission lines CEB system kept on expanding adding more Hydro, Diesel, Gas Turbine Combined Cycle and Coal Power Plants to the present-day network of 4000 MW installed capacity, 132kV and 220kV Transmission Network and a well-spread Distribution Network providing 99% access. Together, we grew in maturity and gained more and more experience in all aspects of a large electricity utility from planning to implementation to operation and maintenance in the technical perspective and managing massive human resource standing at nearly 22,000 across the country and most importantly, managing finances of Sri Lanka’s largest organization with an annual budget in excess of Rs. 200 billion (USD 1.2 billion)
We all, with a wealth of experience, have now grouped together to share our knowledge and experience to enhance the quality and quantity of the Electricity Industry which we love so much!
So we are – ENPOWER ENGINEERING CONSULTANTS (PVT) LTD., (ENPOWER – ENergy+POWER) a limited liability company incorporated in Sri Lanka. We are a new company but we are loaded with expertise and experience to provide services to any client.
